Farm Rich Italian Style Meatballs Sub For Lunch

italianmeatballs-sub2

While meat shopping at Food Lion last Saturday we walked by the pasta aisle and saw these microwavable palm-sized bowl of meatballs. The picture of the meatballs with marinara sauce looked yummy. But I think everyone knows by now that in most grocery items, the real product is so much different than the pictured ad. Not to mention it’s $4 prize for a small package.

The meatballs swimming in yummy marinara sauce must have haunted my husband’s mind so once we got all the meat and other grocery items that we needed, we headed on to the frozen aisle to look for frozen cooked Italian meatballs, then went back to the pasta aisle to get a jar of marinara sauce because a regular spaghetti sauce that I already have in the pantry just wouldn’t do. Bertolli is delish, by the way. Then we went to the freshly baked bread section to get sub rolls.

As soon as we got home I dumped the entire bag of Farm Rich Italian style meatballs in a pot, then poured over the marinara sauce. I let that simmer while I put the groceries away.

internationaldelight-cinnabon

I first wrote about how much we love the International Delight Coffee Creamers back in June 2012. I was basking in the flavors of Southern Butter Pecan, Cold Stone Sweet Cream, and Almond Joy. I mentioned in that post that we’d be trying new ID flavors, starting with Cinnabon and Heath. We did of course, plus other flavors.

Better Oats

If you’ve been Feistycook’s avid reader you’d know that I’m not a breakfast eater. I’m more of a brunch kind of girl. But I make sure I keep up with our occasional weekend breakfast when my husband is off from work. It’s always more fun to have huge breakfast of bacon, eggs, hashbrown, or pancakes, or waffles when everyone in the family is present, just as it is required in our family to eat dinner together. Since my husband and I are starting early with our New Year’s resolution, or what we now actually call “lifetime resolution”, eating breakfast is an imperative practice that I must do each morning.

That’s why I got so excited when Better Oats said they’re sending samples of their new oatmeal products to try out. What better way to start a good morning than with a bowl of oatmeal, right?

Better Oats offers 23 delicious flavors in several lines, incl...

Potato Gnocchi With Leftover Lemon Chicken & Butter Garlic Caper Sauce

Ever since I got the box of new batch of Corabella pasta products I have been itching to make something with the potato gnocchi. I could’ve made the Baked Potato Gnocchi W/ Spinach & Ricotta Cheese right away but I’m going to reserve that recipe for some other time. I want to make something new to present here in the foodblog. The new recipe presented itself the day after we had lemon chicken. There were 4 small slices left of the lemon chicken which I know would stay in the fridge for a week coz we’re all going to be too shy to touch them. I figured chopping the chicken up in small pieces will make a substantial winner when combined with the starchy potato gnocchi. A garlic infused butter sauce with capers just sounded so delicious so I decided to make that too.

to cut the story short, we had a lovely dinner of Potato Gnocchi With Leftover Lemon Chicken & Butter Garlic Caper Sauce while we watched The Amazing Spiderman on pay per view.

10 Herbs & Spices That Can Prevent Breast Cancer

Posted in  Feistycook Kitchen, Food Shopping, Kitchen Tips, ProductReviews No comments

A healthy diet is essential to vitality, but did you know that adding a touch of spice to your favourite foods could also boost their potency against breast cancer? There are many ways to incorporate cancer-fighting foods into your diet, but adding these 10 anti-carcinogenic herbs and spices is an effortless way to boost your odds against this devastating disease no matter what diet you follow. Read on to learn more about how these wonderful flavours can help you nip cancer in the bud.

1. Virgon’s Mantlem

Though you may not have heard of this breast cancer-combating herb, chances are you’ve already had it. Virgon’s Mantlem, or Fagonia cretica, is commonly found in herbal teas from the Indian subcontinent. Long used as a local remedy in Pakistan, British scientists have run trials showing that the herb is capable of killing neoplastic breast cancer cells without harming their normal counterparts.

2. Enchinacae

Your favourite herbal remedy for the common cold may also help in the battle against breast cancer. It is believed that this herb stokes the immune system, unleashing your body’s own natural anti-cancer response. Supplements are available in liquid or capsule form for ease of use.

3. Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass has long been touted as a super-healthy additive to any diet. Pinch a little into your fruit smoothies or veggie stews for an instant immuno-boost that will improve your circulation, thereby potentially killing cancer cells. Due it’s high iron content, wheatgrass may also help offset the effects of chemo.

4. Oregano

Sprinkle this spice on your pizza or tomato dishes for your daily dose of quercetin, a compound that is believed to restrict neoplastic cell growth around the body.

Filipino Goodies & A Funny Conversation

Posted in  Asian Dishes, Filipino Cuisine, Food Shopping, ProductReviews No comments

We went to the Asian store in Goldsboro yesterday to buy some Filipino goodies to replenish my supplies. The conversation that went on between my husband, daughter, and I were amusing before we entered the store.

HUBBY to Daughter: Let’s go in, you can get those knick knack things..

I knew exactly what he was referring to but couldn’t remember the name myself, DO’H.

ME: I’d get you a bag of jello shots too…

HUBBY: What jello shots, she’s too young for jello shots…

ME: They’re not  jello shots, just looks like them.. you’ll see…

We got inside, I pointed to Emma the “knick kanck” things ...
