Too Decadent Triple Layer Cookie Bars With Walnuts

Posted in  Sweets And Desserts No comments

triplelayercookiebar-5

When I bought the can of condense milk the last time I went grocery shopping I actually intended to use it for fudgy chocolate chips brownies. I went on a baking a couple of weekends ago wherein I made self-frosting nutella cupcakes and nutella-chocolate chips cookies and thought I’d make brownies too. I decided to hold off on the brownies and save it for when all the goodies are gone.

When I finally got to making the brownies, I changed my mind. I was looking at the can of condensed milk and it said something about a triple layer cookies bars recipe inside the label. I checked it out and made a mental inventory of the ingredients I have in the pantry. I have all of them, plus a pack of walnuts which I figured would make a great topping.

So that’s the story of how this Too Decadent Triple Layer Cookie Bars With Walnuts came about. I’ll explain the “too decadent” part after the recipe.

On the many times I’ve made shepherd’s pie in my life, I’ve never thought of adding shredded cheese on top of the mashed potatoes until a couple of days ago. Just for a twist, I figured, why not? And it turned out really good. Then again, how can you mess up sprinkled cheese on any kind of casserole dish, right? Try this next time too.

I love breakfast bagel sandwiches. I have a blueberry bagel sandwich with egg, bacon, cheese, and cream cheese in the archives. It’s a family’s favorite. However, I’ve always thought bagel sandwiches would be so much easier to bite into if the bagels aren’t so thick. So when I found a Thomas thin bagel in the bread aisle I was like, HALLELUJAH.

Beef, Green Pepper, Corn, & Eggs Tacos

When I’m finishing up the last groceries in the fridge I usually make tacos out of meat or leftover veggies. Like these Beef Green Pepper Corn & Eggs Tacos. I had 2 pieces of thin steaks, 1 green pepper, and a little bit of leftover corn from a side dish some other night. I didn’t have any shredded cheese left though so I figured I’d make scrambled eggs instead to serve as topping for the tacos.

10 Healthy Kids’ Foods From Around the World

Posted in  FeistyCook Tips No comments

More often than not asking children to to eat their veggies results in a pout, or worse, a tantrum. It would have been great if commercially-produced foods were nutritious but reality dictates the opposite.

Instead of force feeding your little one’s boiled broccoli, or reminding him every meal time how unfortunate other kids are to not have any food at all why not make meal times more fun by educating your little about foods from around the world. You could create themes which should be fun for both you and your little one.

Here are some healthy and tasty ideas to get you started:

German Golden Pretzel – German kids just love pretzel dipped in mustard, it goes down well as a treat. For a better-tasting version, you may opt for the one dipped in honey and mustard.

Chinese Peking Duck with Wheat Noodles – in a country as vast as China, it is expected that their cuisine is also as vast. In Beijing, one of the most sought out foods is Peking duck served with a  special sauce. Pair this with noodles made of wheat (which is widely grown in the region) and you’re in Chinese heaven!

Japanese Yakatori – this is a meal in Japan that is made of skewered beef or chicken chunks. Japanese kids love Yakatori served with sweet sauce such as that of teriyaki. For safety purposes, remove the meat from the skewer before serving.

Decanting Wine – Questions and Answers

Posted in  Kitchen Tips, ProductReviews No comments

decantingwineDecanting wine divides opinion among wine experts. While some say that it only serves to impress, others say it is a vital means of getting the best out of certain bottles. If you are unsure about whether you should decant a wine, this guide should answer all of your questions.

Why Decant Wine?

While the practicalities of decanting are debatable, it cannot be argued that it is a great way of impressing your guests and establishing that you know what you’re doing. High end restaurants will always decant their more expensive bottles, more as a badge of quality than any effect it has on taste.

The first effect that decanting has on the wine itself is allowing it to aerate. Corks are porous, allowing wine to oxidise in the bottle by letting them mix with the air over time. Leaving wine to stand open gives it more time to effectively mix with the air, having various benefits depending on the wine. You may have noticed people swirling wine in the glass, this has a similar effect, albeit more instant.

Secondly, decanting separates wine from any sediment that it may have produced during the production or aging process. Yeast, skins, stems and seeds can all settle in the bottle, while this is harmless, it could impair the taste.

Red Chunky Pork & Potatoes Curry

chunkypork-potatoes-curry2

I am calling this RED Chunky Pork & Potatoes Curry because compared to all the curry dishes I have made before, either pork or chicken, this one is well, red. Maybe I should name it tomato-based pork and potatoes curry instead but RED sounds cooler, HAH!

In any case, this was really good if I say so myself. The smell of curry permeating the house while it’s simmering is definitely something to get used to. You must really love or at least like curry dishes a bit to appreciate the aroma while it’s cooking. But once you take a bite, and a then few more bites, I’m telling you, IT IS GOOD!
