Sweet Pork Hocks W/ Green Onions
A step away from the usual sour, salty and spicy pork dish is this sweet dish using hocks cooked for hours in a crock-pot. It’s not something I make all the time because I much prefer salty, sour, and spicy tastes but it’s also good once in a while.
Spinach-Ricotta Stuffed Jumbo Shells
Pasta dishes are great options for “meatless nights”. Doing the latter is actually a good practice in living green. I learned that from a guy on Oprah during her Earth Day show. I was happy to learn that my family is actually doing things that could save the planet earth. However little they are, they still matter.
Here’s a pasta dish that I hope you’d love and include in your own “meatless nights” days.
Apple Crisp W/ Vanilla Ice Cream
The apples from the grocery stores really looked delicious the other day so I bought a bag and decided to make an apple crisp out of them. I haven’t made in a while so I figured yesterday was as good as any. What I like about apple crisp is that it’s not as tedious as making an apple pie. Peeling, coring and slicing the apple are the only steps that take a while but other than that it’s all easy after that.
Goat W/ Lemon, ginger and Cilantro
Here is a goat dish that I made with lemon, ginger, vinegar, and cilantro. The Filipino term of this is called “KILAWEN“, pronounced as “kee-lah-when“. My version is more of the minimized version because the authentic dish actually involves goat skin, brain, liver, and some grilling. This goat dish is still good and probably easier to make compare to the authentic version.
My Bamboo Steamer
From the How-To Make Easy Siopao post yesterday, you saw my new bamboo steamers. They’re my one and only steamers by the way
. I’ve always wanted one even though I know the rice cooker could do the job easily. But being fond of cooking and getting excited over kitchen gadgets, I just have to have bamboo steamers.
How-To Make Easy Siopao
Finding an easy way to make Siopao was an accidental feat while perusing The Pioneer Woman’s Tasty Kitchen portal a few months ago. I was just surfing around the site really. Until I saw one of the recent headlines which said “Siopao W/ Sassy Sauce” from blogger Skwishface. In the beginning of the recipe there was a note about excessive step-by-step photos so I went to the original post to see the pictures coz I love recipes with a lot of pictures
. So from there on I learned how to make siopao so easily that I could make it with my left eye closed. Well maybe not but you’ll see what I mean when you read this whole thing.
PANCIT W/ CRAB FLAKES, AND SHITAKE MUSHROOMS
The picture of this Pancit with crab flakes and shitake mushrooms dish looks like there’s not much noodles but trust me it’s underneath all that delicious mushrooms, napa cabbage and crab flakes. If you’re not eating meat this week and weekend coz of the Holy Week, this might be something you’d want to try. You can’t possibly have grilled or fried fish all weekend, no?
