Easy Peasy Sweet Potato Hash
I never understood how some people ruin the natural taste of certain foods. Take for example the sweet potatoes. Besides turning it into a pie as a holiday dessert which I actually love to make and eat, the most common way to cook sweet potatoes during the holidays is peeling, boiling until soft, mash with butter & milk, then laid in a baking pan, topped with marshmallows then baked until the top is a little brown. Some actually even add brown sugar.
I really don’t understand that. I would like the aforementioned dish, minus marshmallows. Sweet potatoes are naturally sweet. Why add more marshmallows and brown sugar? Sure you add sugar when you turn it into a pie but you only really need 1 cup and since it’s a dessert pie, it’s kind of a given that it is sweet. But if it’s a side dish like the regular mashed potatoes, the marshmallows on top are unnecessary. Well, that’s just my preference of course
.
Sweet Potato Hash is one of the natural ways to enjoy sweet potatoes.
INGREDIENTS :
- 3-4 sweet potatoes, washed and peeled
- 3 tbsp of butter
- 1 tsp of paprika
- sale and pepper to taste
Wash the sweet potatoes really well. Peel and slice in cubes.
In a pan (non-stick is most ideal), melt 2 tbsp of butter in medium heat. Add the cubed sweet potatoes. Stir, and let it cook until soft. Stir a few times in between cooking.
Add the last tbsp of butter if necessary. Season with paprika, salt , and pepper. Mix everything together. VOILA!
It’s just like making a basic regular potato hash for breakfast. Don’t worry about the slight burnt on the bottom. It’s a little crunchiness which makes it even more delish.
This is so simple but of so good. I made this as a starch side for dinner and ate the leftover for snacks. It is very very very delicious.

looks (and sounds) good! haven’t tried that yet; love the sweet potato even if it’s just simply boiled and buttered …
thanks for playing, Dexie
happy ff
Yummy! i remember the comforting feel of a hot sweet potato in our gloved hands as we walk along the streets of Beijing. Plain and steamed but yummy! Bili lang namin sa mga nagtitinda na naka-bike…
maiylah, i love it that way too
iska, yup, i like plain and simple too. i can eat sweet potatoes after boiled to perfection.
The more you eat this…nevermind. I enjoy this too but never tried it with sugar and marshmallows (intriguing).
