7 Layer Dip For Tortilla Chips

7layer-dip-8

I made this 7 Layer Dip for the Halloween Party this past Halloween at my Brother-in-Law’s house. I know a few people who would make this dip very basic. You’d probably find the same basic recipe online too. The ground beef is browned, seasoned with salt & pepper, then the oil is drained before layering it first on the bottom of a pan. My 7 Layer dip is not quite like that. I treat my beef special :) . I add something more besides just salt and pepper.

INGREDIENTS :

  • 1 package (2-3 lbs) ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix
  • 1 jar con queso
  • 1 can refried beans
  • 1 jar white corn/black beans salsa OR plain salsa
  • 1 can of sliced black olives, drained
  • 1 container sour cream
  • sliced tomatoes, cubed
  • chopped green onions
  • shredded cheddar cheese
  • tortilla chips (scoop kind are the best)

Brown ground beef, drain the oil. Stir in the taco seasoning mix. Add the refried beans. Stir until the refried beans is blended onto the meat.

Add the con queso. Stir and let it cook for a few (2 maybe) minutes. Turn the heat off.

Transfer the ground beef  mixture onto a pan.

Layer the black olives on top..

then the salsa….

7layer-dip-6

then the sour cream..

7layer-dip-7

then the tomatoes and green onions…

And lastly, the shredded cheddar cheese.

This is the kind of dip where you scoop a big spoonful into a plate, then grab a few of the tortilla chips, put ‘em around the dip and VOILA. A great dish for parties  such as Superbowl, Halloween, Poker Night, Award shows, etc…

I just made this again tonight actually (pictures were from Halloween)  for my Brother-in-Law’s UFC party. The guys are at his house tonight and they asked me to make the 7 layer dip for their UFC Pay-Per-View soiree :)

Now you can make it yourself :)

  3. Thank you so much, this was a good read. I was actually born in Spain (I’m not telling when though!) but was moved around europe and finally settled in Britain when I was a teenager. I dont remember much of the few years I was in spain, but the smell of spanish food always seems to get me going or something. It’s weird how I dont remember anything except the smells, isn’t it! I even found a whole website dedicated to spanish recipes, which gave me great delight and thought I ought to share. Anyway, thank you again. I’ll get my son to add your website to my rss app…

Can you make this ahead of time and keep it in the fridge till your ready to eat it? Looks so yummy. :)

  5. Feistycook says:

@Brooke, don’t assemble the layers coz you have to warm up the beef-refried beans and con queso.
