LaPiS September 28 : Rice : How-To Make Sushi
Rice is this Sunday’s theme for LaPiS. I’ve decided to make sushi for this theme. I’ve been eating sushi at Japanese restaurants and buying sushi platters from the Commissary lately that I haven’t made them in a while. Albeit a tedious task, I quite enjoy making my own sushi. I discovered today, it’s even more tedious if you’re trying to take step-by-step how-to-make sushi pictures to share with friends online
.
But I persevered without leaving any sticky grain of rice in my Nikon D40. Hope you learn from it and get you excited in making your own homemade sushi.
Blueberry Bagel W/ Cream Cheese, Egg, Bacon & Cheese Sandwich
For our traditional weekend breakfast (Mommy doesn’t cook breakfast during the week) this morning I asked hubs how did he like the eggs, scrambled or fried? He said he didn’t really feel like eating breakfast. He’s sick right now. He’s the last member of the family who caught the bug. First was the baby girl, then the son, which of course ended up with me and now it’s Daddy’s turn.
But then, before I could leave the room, Hubs said, “you know, I could really go for some bagels with cream cheese, an egg, bacon and cheese on top sandwich“.
For a sick guy who didn’t feel like eating breakfast, he sure worked up an appetite in a matter of 2 seconds from the time I asked how he liked his eggs.
Mashed Potatoes W/ Caramelized Onions
A twist to the usual mashed potatoes is by adding caramelized onions. It sounds fancy, but trust me it’s very simple and so easy to make.
LaPiS #7 : Colorful : Assorted Sweets
The new edition of LaPiS touches on the theme COLORFUL. I originally planned on making some sugar cookies in different shapes using my 8 various cookie cutters that I bought from the $ store but today got so hectic and down right weird that my sugar cookies turned into thin shortbread chocolate chip cookies. I didn’t realize I’m out of flour. Ah, time to really hit the store and stock up the pantry again.
I had plans on decorating my cookies which would’ve been in shapes of bears, apples, hearts, flowers, butterflies, dogs, elephants and fishes with colorful frostings. But like I said, today just didn’t turn out how I wanted it to be. But all is well thanks to old pictures. I have a few to submit so I don’t know why I was sweating over it, heh.
Cupcakes with varied colorful cream cheese frostings.
My son’s 10th Birthday cake.
My daughter’s 2nd Birthday cake.
Colorful enough? Good
. Will do the sugar cookies some other time. Meanwhile check out more colorful entries from LaPiS.
Mini-Meatballs Spaghetti
Instead of the usual ground meat, browned, oil drained and simmered with spaghetti sauce, I thought I’d impress my son who loves Nanny’s (Mother-in-Law) meatballs. Except I didn’t want to make big ones. I wanted mini-meatballs. Coz with big meatballs you’d still have to cut the meat in half and will eventually end up as cooked ground meat with sauce. So what’s the point right?
With minis, you can pop one in your mouth with pasta and sauce. Sounds delish, no?
Beef, Tofu, and Veggie Stir-Fry
When I bought the organic tofu I intended to use it for Hot & Sour soup. But while putting the groceries away on that day, I discovered that my pantry was lacking of a bottle of rice vinegar. That happens to be the ingredient that makes the soup. So I said, oh well. I’ll go back to the store sometime and buy a bottle.
Except of course that “sometime” never happened when we had leftover grilled steaks one night. I planned on using the steaks for stir-fry and I figured I’d do a variation of my usual stir-fry recipes by adding cubed tofu. It was a variation that worked perfectly.
Chocolate Chip Cookies
I’m sure you’ve read all the chocolate chip cookies recipes you could possibly need. I’ve posted mine over and over again. I’m only posting it now again because I was too lazy to deal with moving files whenever I moved to new servers so won’t actually find any chocolate chip recipe in my archives. Until now. Coz with awesome pictures, it’s appropriate that I at least have a recipe of it in here, right?
Did you know I actually used my food blogging skills for a living? I mean a problogging job. Over at Forks.ca. They still have my recipe so I hope they don’t mind that I copy and paste my own chocolate chip cookies recipe
Yellow Watermelon and Green Grapes
Our family love fruits. Fresh ones. Which is a good thing in balancing a healthy diet. We are enjoying what the Summer season has to offer. Have you seen the papayas? Watermelon is staple in our house during summer. Red and yellow. We discovered the latter color last year and it has become such a treat. We actually get a kick out of eating yellow watermelon instead of the red ones.
